ROANOKE, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team did what they did all season, battling until the end, but couldn't overcome a very talented Hollins University squad in ending the season with an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament 5-0 loss in play from the Batten Tennis Center.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of first-years Patricia Verdezoto (Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador/Bilingue Interamericano) and Kaitlyn Kolster (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) came up just short to one of the best pairs squads in the league, falling 8-5. First-year Anna Culpepper (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) teamed with senior Janie Campbell (Fredericksburg, VA/James Monroe) at No. 2 doubles, dropping the match 8-4.
After the doubles matches yielded three points for HU (13-4), the WildCats looked to get a point in singles action. With the match being played to completion, the No. 1 through No. 4 singles matches were unfinished as Hollins picked up victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Kolster took three games off her opponent in the first set at No. 4 singles, but the match was stopped before it ended.
The WildCats finish the season 7-9 and have all but Campbell and captain Brooke Camper (Smithfield, VA/Smithfield) returning next season.
