LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's tennis team started its 2012 spring season off on the right step, knocking off Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and intercity rival Lynchburg College 5-2 in league action from the new Randolph Tennis Courts.

Randolph (2-1/1-0 ODAC) led play after doubles action 2-1, as Daniil Lyalko (Reisterstown, MD/Park School of Baltimore) and Mitch Franko (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) teamed at No. 1 to win 8-2. Moving in singles play, the WildCats won three of the four matches that finished to roll to the victory. The other two matches were stopped due to darkness. Corsbie dispatched of his opponent at No. 2 singles four and three, while first-year Zach Dales (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) won at No. 5 in straight sets, 3-1. Phung was the other WildCat to capture a victory, as he won a three-set thriller 3-6, 6-1, and 10-7 in the super tiebreaker.

"Our first match of the spring was a conference match, as any conference win is really important to our season," said head tennis coach Jamie C. Megginson. "Great to start off in the right direction; the guys came out with great energy in doubles…and in single we really focused in and got the job done."

Randolph is back in action this Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as Bluefield College comes to town for a non-conference match on the Randolph Tennis Courts.
