Hot Three Point Shooting Propels Emory & Henry Past Randolph Men Saturday Afternoon

Box Score

EMORY, VA – Emory & Henry College shot 40.7 percent from three-land and knocked down 11 three-pointers as the Wasps knocked of the Randolph College men's basketball team Saturday in league play from the King Center.

Both teams shot the lights out in the first half, as Randolph (6-7/2-3 ODAC) made 65.4 percent (17-26) and Emory & Henry shot slightly less at 60.7 percent (17-28). The WildCats scored the game's first four points, but that was the largest lead the visitors would have all afternoon. After a Derrick Woods-Morrow (Greensboro, NC/NE Guilford) made a lay-up to tie the game at 17, Kyle Sensabaugh made back-to-back three-pointers to give EHC (7-6/1-4 ODAC) a six-point cushion.

The host Wasps built an eight point lead at 35-27, but Randolph battled back to tie the game at 38 on a pair of foul shots by Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) . Sensabaugh knocked down his fourth three of the half right before halftime to give EHC a 43-40 lead going into the break.

The game remained close as Randolph pulled tied at 45 and 47, eventually taking its first lead since early in the first half on a three-pointer from first-year guard Zach Desgain (Richmond, VA/JR Tucker). EHC responded with an 11-1 run to build its largest margin of nine with 10:42 left. The WildCats trimmed the advantage down to four with 4:20 left, but couldn't get any closer down the stretch.

Desgain had his best game of his career on Saturday, scoring a game-best 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor. Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) had 19 points and a game-high seven rebounds, adding three helpers and three steals as well. Reserve forwardDylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry) hit all eight shots he took for 12 points, corralling six caroms before fouling out.

Ehilegbu was in double-figures as well for Randolph, which dropped its fourth straight game and fifth of its last six. Randolph shot 53.8 percent for the game, but hit on only four of its 17 shots from distance.

EHC got 20 points off the bench from Tyler Driver to lead the way, and Malcolm Green had 18 points and five rebounds. Tyler Mullins made five of his seven shots en route to 11 points and six rebounds, and Sensabaugh finished with 14 points; EHC shot just 10-of-21 from the line, but the red hot shooting from the floor made up for it.

Randolph will look to rebound Wednesday evening against No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan College at 7 p.m. in the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.
