Hunt is the first player to surpass the barrier at Randolph since Lindsay Cross '10 accomplished the feat in her senior season. Hunt joins a group of 10 other players, all women, in the 1,000 point club at the College. Hunt accomplished the feat with 6:30 left in the first half, as he knocked down all three free-throws after being fouled on a trifecta.
As for the win, Randolph (8-11/3-7 ODAC) earned the much needed victory, much in part to the play from Derrick Woods-Morrow (Greensboro, NC/NE Guilford) . Woods-Morrow finished with game-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds, as he shot nine-of-11 from the floor.
Randolph led the Tigers (14-5/8-3 ODAC) during the early going, but the two teams exchanged the lead seven times while the game was tied over the first 10 minutes. With Hampden-Sydney leading 24-20, Randolph rattled off 11 straight points to lead by seven after a three-pointer from Cameron Colquitt (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) .
After the 'Cats led by six at halftime, they would build the spread up to 12 after a thunderous dunk from Woods-Morrow. The lead was still at double-figures with seven minutes to go, but H-SC slowly crept back into the ball game. Randolph led by eight at 61-53 with 5:07 left, but a layup by Ben Jessee and jumpers from Ru White and Harrison George cut the WildCat lead to one with 2 minutes to play.
Those were the final points that would be scored in the game though, as H-SC missed four shots down the stretch including a jumper by George at the buzzer to win the game as the 'Cats held on the for the win.
Woods-Morrow now sits seven points short of 1,000 for his career, as the big man will have his next opportunity to get to that mark Wednesday at Washington & Lee University. Zach Desgain (Richmond, VA/J.R. Tucker) continued his fine first year with the WildCats, hitting five-of-six from the field and three-of-four from downtown for 13 points.
Hunt finished with seven points, but dished out four assists and had five steals. The WildCat defense forced Hampden-Sydney into its worst shooting performance of the season, as the Tigers hit on only 41.1 percent (23-56) from the field. H-SC is the top-shooting team in the country, hitting at 51.8 percent for the season.
Hampden-Sydney was paced by the 10 points from George, as he finished four-of-10 from the floor. White had nine points, Keegan Wetzel had six points and a team-high five rebounds and Greg Lewis had eight points off the bench for H-SC. The game was fairly clean, with only 22 total free throws being attempted.
The victory snapped a seven-game ODAC losing skid for the WildCats, and Randolph is now 3-0 against the Tigers all-time in its own building.
Randolph will travel to take on the Generals Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Lexington, VA in more ODAC play from the Warner Center.
