Colton Hunt Becomes Randolph's All-Time Leading Scorer at Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, VA — Junior guard Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) became Randolph College's all-time leading scorer Saturday with 24 points, but a strong second half from Eastern Mennonite University pushed the Runnin' Royals past Randolph College 74-71 in league play from Yoder Arena. 

EMU led for most of the early part of the first half, but the WildCats roared back from a nine-point deficit to take a seven-point lead thanks to a 16-0 run. Randolph would take a seven-point lead into intermission, thanks to 13 first half points from Hunt. He broke the record, previously held by last year senior Pete Hamilton '11, on a pair of free throws with 4:42 left in the stanza. 

After the break, EMU came to life leading by as much as 11 points midway through the second half. Randolph battled back to cut the lead down to one with 49 seconds left after a jumper by Hunt. Randolph and EMU traded baskets and free throws over the next two possessions to stay at a one-point lead. With three seconds left, a down court pass was intercepted, sealing the win for EMU. 

Randolph was led by the game high 24 points from Hunt, as he made 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. Dylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry) had another strong game for the WildCats with 14 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Shiflett hit five-of-six from the field and four-of-five from the line. 

First-year Zach Desgain (Richmond, VA/J.R. Tucker) had 12 points and six rebounds, whileDerrick Woods-Morrow (Greensboro, NC/ NE Guilford) closed in on 1,000 points with a 10 point outing. Randolph was 33-of-39 from the line, setting a school record for free throws taken and made in a game. 

EMU had five players in double-figures, led by Owen Longacre with 15 points. Dajon Daniel and David Falk each added 13 points, while RJ Sims finished with 12 points. EMU won the rebounding battle 34-28, including capturing 15 offensive caroms. 

Randolph will look to look to bounce back on Wednesday evening as it travels to Guilford College for another Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest at 7 p.m.
