Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA — The Randolph College men's basketball team held Shenandoah University to 27.1 percent shooting, including only 19 percent from deep as the WildCats earned a 52-37 non-conference victory over the Hornets Sunday afternoon from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.
The 27.1 percent shooting against was the second-lowest an NCAA-sanctioned team has shot against the WildCats, only bested by the 26.3 percent Lynchburg College shot back in a Randolph (6-3) win February 18, 2009. Shenandoah's (1-6) shooting from deep was the lowest a Randolph opponent has shot since Guilford College shot 10 percent (1-10) in the ODAC Quarterfinals last year.
The contest was back and forth early on, as the game was tied four times and the lead changed hands five times. Shenandoah took its biggest lead of the game at five with 9:59 left in the game after a three from Matt Carpenter. After exchanging leads with five minutes to go, Randolph finished the half on a 9-2 run to lead 26-21 at the half.
After the intermission, Randolph opened the half on a 14-5 run to push the WildCat lead to 16 after a lay-up from Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) with eight minutes to play. The Randolph defense would settle in, holding SU to only 16 second-half points as Randolph pulled away for the 15-point win.
The 16 point second-half for the Hornets was lowest ever that a NCAA Randolph opponent has scored in the second stanza. Randolph was paced by the 15 points and nine rebounds from junior Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) . Senior forward Derrick Woods-Morrow (Greensboro, NC/NE Guilford) add a nice game, finishing with 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
Junior guard Cameron Colquitt (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) had a very nice game, especially in the second half as he scored all six of his points in the closing period. Colquitt added three rebounds, a pair of assists and two steals. Randolph finished 19-of-41 (46.3 percent) on the afternoon from the field, and won the rebounding battle 39-25.
The Hornets' lone scorer in double figures was Avery Green, who had a team-best 10 points. Ross Heyl had six points with two three-pointers hit, while James Bowens and Dominic Chappell each added six points as well for SU.
Randolph will have seven days off before heading to San Juan, Puerto Rico to take on Augsburg College and Hood College December 19-20.
