'Cats Set Two PRs at Adidas XC Challenge

CARY, NC – Members of the Randolph College men's cross country team competed at the Adidas XC Challenge on Friday, and two runners set personal bests.  The WildCats were one of only two Division III institutions represented at the 5K race on the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course.

Matthieu Meyer was the first 'Cat to set a PR.  He finished 43rd overall, in a time of 17:19.7 defeating over 30 Division I and II runners.  Alex Clem came in three spots after his teammate, with another personal record: 17:24.3.

Amadou Beye was the final WildCat competing, in what was his first collegiate 5K.  He finished in 66th, with a time of 18:46.5.

"Career kind of a race all the way around today. Meyer and Clem ran two of the top-three fastest 5k's in program history. Beye was the shock of the day! He ran so much better than he did in his first race out," said Head Coach Bill Cooper.  "We couldn't be happier with how hard this group is working this season. I thought that it was going to be a fast race and was ecstatic with the results!"

Due to class conflicts for some student-athletes, only three WildCats could compete, therefore not having a team score in the end.  However, the runners that placed, outperformed the other Division III team by over 50 points.

The 'Cats will be back in action next Saturday.  It will not be a team competition, but the Virginia 4 Miler, which is part of the Virginia 10 Miler, hosted in Lynchburg, VA.  The race begins at 9 a.m.
