LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's volleyball team hosted Averett in an ODAC match on Friday evening at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats handled the Cougars with ease as they won 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-15).
The WildCats improve to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Averett drops to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in the ODAC.
The Cougars scored the first point of the first set but the 'Cats broke through with a 10-3 lead. Randolph increased its advantage to 19-9 and ended the set on a 6-1 run to win 25-12.
AU scored the first point of the second set. Randolph broke out to an 11-7 lead which became 16-9. Leading 17-11, the WildCats ended the frame on an 8-1 run to win 25-12.
For the third straight set, Averett scored the first point. Randolph led 7-3 and eventually 15-10. Still ahead by five points, 19-14, a 6-1 WildCat run ended the set in Randolph's favor as it won 25-15 and claimed the match.
Mats Beentjes (Beverwijk, The Netherlands/Kennemer College) led Randolph with seven kills and eight digs. Conner Maher (Buckeye, Ariz./Odyssey Institute) totaled 15 assists to go with five digs. Noah Furr (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Bishop Moore) had four of Randolph's 10 service aces on the night.
The WildCats return to their home floor on Saturday as they host Regent. Match time is at 1:00 p.m.
