Box Score MARYVILLE, Tenn.- The Randolph men's soccer team played its second and final game of the Maryville Bicentennial Classic on Saturday evening against the host Scots. Maryville tallied one goal in each half as it won by the final score of 2-1.
The Scots got on the scoreboard in the 15th minute as Alexander Rigatti scored off an assist from Chris Fernandez. The WildCats were held without a shot until the 27th minute when Daniel Over's (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) attempt was blocked.
The score remained at 1-0 until the 51st minute when the Scots struck again to go ahead 2-0. The WildCats were still held without a shot on frame and that came at the 66th minute by Evan Blow (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville).
Despite the deficit, the WildCats continued to look for a score. It would finally come in the 85th minute. Gunnar Copeland (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) sent in a cross that Jamie Ford-Lane (Falls Church, Va./J.E.B. Stuart) headed into the left side of the net to make it 2-1. Randolph had two more shot opportunities in the final four minutes but both attempts went wide of the net.
Erick Cortez-Martinez (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) stopped seven shots in goal for the WildCats. Ford-Lane's goal was the first of his four-year career.
Total shots were 16-9 in Maryville's favor. Randolph did have a 12-7 advantage in corner kicks.
The WildCats go back on the road Wednesday as they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to play the Pride. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
