Men's Soccer Dethrone Royals, Snap Three-Game Skid

LYNCHBURG, Va. – An early goal and a strong defensive effort helped the Randolph WildCats men's soccer team snap a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Eastern Mennonite Royals on Saturday at WildCat Stadium.

Randolph came out aggressive from the opening whistle, putting pressure on the EMU defense early. The 'Cats broke through in the 19th minute when Nick Conboy collected a pass from Sage Dombrovskis and fired a shot into the bottom-right corner to give Randolph a 1-0 lead. Both teams found shots through the rest of the half, but the WildCats carried their 1-0 lead into the break.

Both squads returned to the pitch with a sense of urgency, as the Royals searched for an equalizer and Randolph looked to extend its lead. The 'Cats found their insurance goal in the 69th minute when Tyler Richardson buried a shot in the bottom-right corner, just beyond the goalkeeper's reach. Richardson struck again in the 87th minute, finding the same corner to give Randolph a commanding 3-0 edge with just minutes to go.

EMU netted its lone goal in the 88th minute and threatened on a pair of dangerous corner kicks in the closing minutes, but the WildCats held firm to secure the victory.
Randolph finished with 19 shots to EMU's 10, including 12 in the first half. Marcus Cortes led the 'Cats with four shots, one on target, while Dombrovskis recorded the team's lone assist. Conboy's score was his first of the season.

With the win, Randolph improves to 5-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in ODAC play. The victory keeps the WildCats in contention for an ODAC Tournament berth, as they currently sit eighth in the conference standings. Randolph returns to WildCat Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 21, to host Batten, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
