Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team dropped an 18-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) decision to Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon.
The host Hornets shut out the WildCats in the first and second quarters to lead, 13-0, at halftime. Coming out of the break, Randolph made it difficult for Shenandoah to find the goal as easily as it had in the first half, with the Hornets only scoring once in the entire third quarter. The WildCats finally landed on the scoreboard as Matthew Piascik (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) found the back of the net at the 3:20 mark.
Both teams finished the fourth quarter with four goals apiece. Piascik added his second goal of the game, off of an assist from Prince Charles (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate), with 12:59 remaining on the clock to trim the deficit to 14-2. Just over a minute later, Louie Canas (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) recorded his first collegiate goal, off a feed from Brett Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch), bringing the score to 14-3.
Three consecutive goals by the Hornets placed them with a 17-3 advantage over the WildCats before Pausic connected back of the net for his first goal of the game. Shenandoah scored its last goal with 1:09 remaining on the clock while the WildCats followed up with their fifth goal eight seconds later as Jace Cornell (Spotslyvania, Va./Courtland) quickly won the face-off to feed the ball to Pausic for his second goal of the game and seal the final 18-5 tally.
Pausic fired off eight shots for the WildCats while Piascik recorded six shots and Gage Tutko (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) totaled three shots. Charles picked up a team-high 10 ground balls, caused two turnovers and won 6-of-10 face-offs.
Corey Boswell (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) took the loss in the crease, facing 15 shots and making five stops. William Doyle (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate) racked up 37 minutes in the goal for Randolph, facing 18 shots and made a career-high 11 saves. Connor Dobbins (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) also saw time in goal, making one save.
The WildCats drop to 3-9, 0-5 ODAC and are back home on Wednesday, April 10 when they host Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m.
