Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team defeated SUNY Delhi, 9-7, on Wednesday evening at WildCat Stadium.

Nick Junkin-Mills (Brookeville, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School) broke open the scoring gates in the first quarter, placing the WildCats ahead on the scoreboard off a feed from Gage Tutko (Manassas, Va./Osbourn). Tutko turned around to deliver a goal of his own, off the stick of Brett Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch), at the 5:45 mark to lift the WildCats, 2-0, over the Broncos. Delhi managed to get onto the scoreboard with 2:19 remaining in the quarter but Randolph would extend its lead to 3-1 as Pausic found the stick of Matthew Piascik (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) for one last goal to close out the period.

Despite Tutko adding another goal to bring the WildCats' lead to 4-1, back-to-back goals by the Broncos made it a 4-3 game at halftime.

As the third quarter was underway, both teams would notch two goals apiece but Randolph would still maintain the lead with a slim 6-5 margin at the start of the final period. Another goal by Pausic added to Randolph's lead (7-5) but the Broncos remained close on the WildCats' tail, scoring with 8:23 left in the game for a 7-6 score.

Prince Charles (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) found the back of the net just as the shot clock was about to expire to give Randolph an 8-6 lead before a final goal by Tutko at the 1:38 mark handed the WildCats its largest margin, 9-6, of the game. The Broncos scored one final goal with under a minute to play for the 9-7 tally that would cement Randolph's victory as time expired.

The WildCats outshot the Broncos, 40-29, held a 20-15 edge in ground balls and won 11-of-19 face-offs but both teams were even with 11 saves apiece.

Tutko landed three goals off six shots and tallied one assist for Randolph while Charles and Piascik recorded two goals apiece with Charles adding two assists and scooping up six ground balls. Corey Boswell (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) earned the win in goal, facing 18 shots and making 11 saves.

Randolph improves to 2-1 on the season and moves on to host Methodist University on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
