Volleyball Defeats Christendom 3-0 in Home Finale

LYNCHBURG, Va.- It was Senior Day for the Randolph volleyball team as it hosted Christendom in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats hit a season-best .370 in the match as they shutout the Crusaders 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-9).

The WildCats led 7-2 in the first set. Randolph stayed out in front for the rest of the set as the Crusaders closed to four points at 23-19 but Audrey Antesberger's (Scottsville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) two kills ended the set and gave the WildCats the win.

Randolph led 4-0 on its way to a 6-1 lead in the second set. Christendom rallied as it used a 6-1 run to go ahead 8-7. The lead changed hands a few times and then was tied at 12-12. A 7-1 'Cat run boosted the Randolph lead to 19-13. The WildCats stayed far out in front to claim the set win.

The third set was tied on 3-3 until Randolph got ahead 7-3. The set was as close as 9-5 but the WildCats outscored the Crusaders 16-4 to cruise to the set and match win.

Mackenzie Ambrose (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) paced the WildCat offensive attack with 10 kills. Lauren Morgan (Bedford, Va./Liberty) and Tomi-Lauren McGinnis (Ringgold, Va./Dan River) both added eight kills each. Taylor Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) had 36 assists. Sam Verhaagen (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Christian) picked up 19 digs with Ambrose chipping in 12. Antesberger had five total blocks.

McGinnis hit .727 in the match. Ambrose had a .529 hitting percentage and Morgan .467.

Prior to the match, graduating seniors Taylor and Kennedy Webb, Verhaagen and Morgan were recognized.

Randolph now sets its sights on the upcoming ODAC Tournament which begins on Wednesday. The WildCats were in a three-way tie for eighth place but secured its position due to tiebreakers.

This is the second straight season the team has qualified for the postseason and the first since 2014-2015 to qualify in back-to-back years. The WildCats face top-seed Randolph-Macon in Ashland. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
