ASHLAND, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team, seeded eighth in the ODAC Tournament, took on top-seeded Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets defeated the WildCats 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-15).
Randolph hung with the Jackets early on in the first set. The WildCats trailed 8-7 but R-MC used a 7-1 run to go ahead 15-8 on its way to the 25-15 set win.
The Yellow Jackets took a huge 17-0 lead in the second before the 'Cats registered their first point. Randolph-Macon dominated the frame as it won 25-8.
The third set saw the WildCats go ahead 2-0. The Yellow Jackets went ahead 10-7 but the 'Cats would go on to tie the set at 11-11. Randolph-Macon then went on an 8-1 run to go up 19-12 for a lead it would not relinquish.
Mackenzie Ambrose (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) led the WildCats in kills with six while Tomi-Lauren McGinnis (Ringgold, Va./Dan River) and Logan Warren (Chesterfield, Va./Steward School) added four kills each. McGinnis also had three blocks.
Taylor Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) finished with 15 assists and six digs. Sam Verhaagen (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Christian) had a team-best 21 digs.
Randolph finishes its season with a final record of 13-14.
