LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team began the first of three straight home matches against Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents on Tuesday as they hosted Guilford. It was a hard-fought three-set match but the Quakers came out on the winning end 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-15).

The loss evens Randolph's record at 10-10 and drops its ODAC record to 4-6. Guilford improves to 13-7 and 5-3 in the conference.

The first set saw the WildCats roar back from a 19-13 deficit. Randolph used a 12-5 run to go ahead 25-24. Facing set point at 24-22, Makenzie Ambrose (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) laid down a kill followed by a Taylor Webb (Nassawadox, Va./ Northampton) kill and then an attack error on Guilford. The Quakers recovered to score the last three points on kills by Christian Ritter and Jasmine Gaines.

The 'Cats got out ahead in the second set 11-7 but GC rallied to tie at 11-all. Randolph stayed with the Quakers and did not let them run away with the set. The WildCats got to within one point of tying at 22-21 but again the Quakers tallied the last three points of the set on kills by Ritter and Michael Alfred along with an attack error from Maddie Gaus (Newport News, Va./Summit Christian Acad.) to go ahead 2-0 in the match.

Randolph trailed 11-8 in the third set before Guilford ran off a 6-1 run to go ahead 17-9. The 'Cats cut to 20-15 but for the third time the set ended on a Quaker run, this time 5-0, to take the match win.

Ambrose led in kills with 11. Audrey Antesberger (Scottsville, Va./Saint Anne's Belfield) added six and Gaus five. Antesberger also picked up two blocks with Gaus tallying one. Webb had 27 assists. Sam Verhaagen (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Christian) finished with 19 digs. Webb added 14 digs and Ambrose 10.

The WildCats host Eastern Mennonite this Friday night at 5:00 p.m. to begin a weekend of ODAC matches. The Quakers return to face Bridgewater at 7:30 p.m.
