LYNCHBURG, Va.- With the weather outside not in their favor, the Randolph women's tennis team moved indoors to the Crosswhite Athletic Club for its match with Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. The WildCats won handily by the score of 5-0.
Randolph has won six matches in a row to increase its overall record to 8-3 and ODAC record to 5-2. The Marlins fall to 7-6 and 2-3 in the conference.
Keyu Jin (Kunming China,/No.8 Middle School) and Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) won at first doubles 8-3. Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) and Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) were able to hold off the pair of Katie Staman and Kellen Phillips by the score of 8-6. Third doubles was a battle as Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) were neck and neck with Kristina Sablestrom and Taylor Witherspoon. The match went to a tie break where Mueller and Opoku-Sarfu came out on the winning end 9-8.
In singles play, Jin had no trouble against Makayla Velic as she cruised 6-1, 6-0 at #1. At #2, Schmitz outlasted Audrey Bally 7-5 in the first set and won 6-1 in the second to clinch the win for the WildCats.
Randolph hosts Lynchburg this coming Wednesday. The match begins at 3:00 p.m.
