LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and six singles matches to clinch a 9-0 victory over visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Shenandoah University on Sunday afternoon.
The pairing of Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) at No. 1 doubles took down their opponent, 8-0, while the tandem of Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) and Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) also won their match, 8-0, in the No. 2 spot.
The Hornets fought back from a 7-5 deficit at No. 3 doubles for a 7-all match, but the victory would ultimately go to Randolph's Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and Kristyn Underwood (Afton, Va./Nelson County), who clinched the final 9-7 score.
Jin added to Randolph's win column as she won No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0 while Schmitz took a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot. Hawn swept her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 while Mueller won No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Opoku-Sarfo won her match at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0 with Shelby Lutz (Lynchburg, Va./Brookeville) adding a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the No. 6 spot to clinch the sweep.
The WildCats conclude the regular season 10-5 overall and 7-4 in the ODAC. Randolph now waits to see where they will place in the ODAC Tournament standings.
