LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis team clinched a 9-0 win over Hollins University on Friday afternoon on its home courts.
Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) easily took No. 1 doubles, 8-0 while the tandem of Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) and Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) managed to claim a close 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) teamed up with Kristyn Underwood (Afton, Va./Nelson County) in No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep with an 8-5 triumph.
In singles action, Jin took home a win at the No. 1 spot as she downed her opponent, 6-1, 6-0 while Schmitz grabbed an easy 6-1 first set win but had to battle in the second set to ultimately clinch the win, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Hawn added to the WildCats' win column as she earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot while Mueller ended up securing No. 4 singles with a three set victory. Opoku-Sarfo would take No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-4, while Shelby Lutz (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) closed out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6
The WildCats improve to 9-5 overall and 6-4 in the ODAC and will return on Sunday, April 22 to close out their season at home against Shenandoah. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
