Women's Tennis Takes 8-1 ODAC Win over Emory & Henry

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches before taking five of six matches in singles play to earn an 8-1 win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Emory & Henry College on Saturday morning.

The sophomore pair Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) earned an 8-2 victory in first flight doubles while Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) and Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) won flight two, 8-1. The tandem of Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) capped off the sweep with an 8-3 win in flight three.

Jin kicked off singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Katie Meade in flight one while Schmitz took care of Kala Curtis, 6-1, 6-0 in flight two. Flight three went to Hawn, who swept Tessa Johnston, 6-0, 6-0 and the victory in flight four went Appel who defeated Kaitlyn Sheaves, 6-5, 6-1.

Flight five would head to a tie-breaker set which saw Mueller fall to Bri Pierce, 2-6, 6-1, 8-10 while Opoku-Sarfo took flight six, 6-1, 6-1 over Ellington King.

The WildCats improve to 4-3, 2-2 ODAC and will take a brief pause from conference play to host Averett University at 1 p.m.
