LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College men's team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Emory & Henry College, 6-3, on its home court on Saturday morning.
Despite trailing early in flight one doubles, the tandem of Bradley Strober (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and Edgar Ellis (Hickory, N.C./Hickory) battled back to take the flight with an 8-5 score. Daniel Crutcher (Newton, N.C./Maiden) and Joe Kaneda (Media, Pa./Penncrest) took flight two with an 8-3 victory while the sophomore pairing of Ben Roberts (Davidson, N.C./Davidson Day) and John Coffron (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) were swept, 8-0, in flight three.
In singles action, Strober swept Liam Davidson, 6-0, 6-0 in flight one while Crutcher was forced to play to a tie-breaker set in flight two, ultimately defeating Grayson McCarty, 6-0, 5-7, 10-7. Ellis defeated Dalton Shipley, 6-0, 6-1 to win flight three while Kaneda downed Cooper Garrett 6-0, 6-1 to take flight four.
Randolph dropped the final two singles matches as Coffron fell 6-0, 6-0 to Andrew McClung in flight five and Roberts fell to Taylor Hines, 6-3, 6-0 in flight six.
The WildCats improve to 2-4, 1-2 ODAC and are back on their home court tomorrow when they host Averett University at 1 p.m.
