LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis team swept doubles play and won five singles matches to take home an 8-1 win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Sweet Briar College on Friday afternoon at the Randolph Tennis Courts.
The Vixens put up a fight in first flight doubles but the tandem of Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) ultimately took down their opponents, 8-5. Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) and Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) paired up in flight two to grab an 8-2 win while Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory in flight three.
In singles action, Jin defeated Emily Wandling, 6-1, 6-3, while Schmitz defeated AJ Lukanuski, 6-1, 6-3, in flight two and Hawn swept Anna Colvin with a 6-0, 6-0, flight three triumph. Appel earned the only loss for Randolph, falling in flight four to Samantha Yew, 6-2, 6-1. Mueller earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory in flight five while Opoku-Sarfo earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lacey Tucker in flight six.
The WildCats improve to 3-3, 1-2 ODAC and are back on their home court tomorrow when they take on conference foe Emory & Henry College at 11 a.m.
