BRIDGEWATER, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team faced Bridgewater in its second ODAC match of the season on Friday afternoon. The Eagles bested the WildCats by the score of 9-1. Randolph's record is now 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference while Bridgewater improves to 4-3 and 1-0 in the league.
Randolph's lone win came at first doubles. The pair of Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 School) and Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) defeated Jamiah Lewis and Whitney Kiser 8-6. The second doubles duo of Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va.) and Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) were edged out by Nicole Shifflett and Stephanie Barton 8-6.
In singles play, two matches went to a third set. Schmitz battled Kiser in the second flight taking the first game 7-6 and falling 6-2 in the second. Kiser was able to hold off Schmitz with a 6-2 win in the third. Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) won her first set 6-4 against Rachel Zarin but dropped the next two 6-3, 6-2. Jin fell at first singles 6-4, 6-4 as did Mueller in fourth singles.
Randolph returns to its home court on Tuesday as it hosts Centre College. Start time is at 3:00 p.m.
