Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday night at WildCats Stadium. For the third straight game, the WildCats held an opponent off the board as they defeated the Tigers 2-0.
The win, which is the third straight for Randolph, improves the team's overall record to 5-2. Hampden-Sydney drops to 4-2-1.
It would be nearly 28 minutes into the first half before the first shot was registered. Adam Watson (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) had a good look at a score but his attempt glanced off the crossbar and out of play. Randolph scored in the 44th minute as Gabe Krueger (Jacksonville, N.C./White Oak) took a pass from Julian Williams-Milne (Richlands, N.C./Richlands) and fired a shot to the right of the net and in to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Tigers looked to answer in the second half with back-to-back corners in the 49th minute that went for naught. In the 55th minute, Watson had a one-on-one with a Tiger defender and punched his shot in from near right of the post to put the WildCats ahead 2-0.
The WildCat defense held Hampden-Sydney to just three shots overall with none coming on goal. Randolph starting goalkeeper Erick Cortez-Martinez (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) did not register a save in picking up his first win this season.
Randolph hosts Eastern Mennonite this Saturday for Homecoming/Family Weekend. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
