LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made its contribution of donated athletic wear in response to the mission set out by University of Houston head men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.
Sampson's team collected t-shirts and shoes to donate to those affected by the flooding and other schools, including Randolph, have joined his efforts.
"We are deeply saddened by the effects of Hurricane Harvey," said SAAC President Jordyn Knapp. "We hope that all of the clothing and shoes that we collected will help bring some joy in this hard time for many affected by this tragedy."
From Sept. 1 to Sept. 9, SAAC had donations boxes set up in the lobby of the RAD Center and in Main Hall next to the information desk, as well as at the men's and women's soccer hope openers on Sept. 6 and Sept. 9, and asked for new or slightly worn t-shirts and athletic shoes.
Randolph was successful in its endeavor and SAAC was able to collect 110 shirts, four pairs of shoes, three track jackets, two pairs of sweatpants and seven long sleeve pullovers.
