Randolph Welcomes Alex Scheer as New Sports Information Director

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Randolph College Director of Athletics Tom Galbraith announced Monday the hiring of Alex Scheer as the new Sports Information Director for the WildCats.

Scheer has served as an assistant in two well-respected Division III SID offices over the past two years at Augustana College (Ill.) and Heidelberg University (Ohio) and takes the reins at Randolph, having experienced all facets of the profession at those two stops.

While at Heidelberg, Scheer led the transition to broadcasting with FLOSports, similar to the contract that Randolph and the ODAC share with the streaming leader currently. His resume includes play-by-play and color commentary experience for soccer, softball, and volleyball. Scheer also represented Heidelberg at the 2025 NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar and was named to the 2025 Emerging Elite program by College Sports Communicators, recognizing and developing promising leaders in athletic communications.

"Alex's resume aligned perfectly with every need we were seeking to fill with the SID opening on our staff, especially as it relates to our streaming products and our FLOSports contract," Galbraith said. "His experience in all the areas of the sports information profession will provide a key element to the continued growth and success of the department."

Beyond just the on-campus highlights, Scheer also has experience at the regional and national levels, including serving as a band and spirit liaison for the 2026 NCAA Final Four. He served as game day operations for the 2026 HCAC baseball tournament, game day operations for the 2025 Opendorse Bowl Series, and on the stats crew for the 2025-26 NCAA Division III National Championship.

Scheer's experience is not limited to traditional sports information duties.

As a double graduate of the Mid-American Conference (Toledo, B.A. 2024; Ohio, M.S. 2026), Scheer created and then hosted and produced The MAC Sports Connection Podcast from 2019-25. It was the top-rated independent podcast dedicated to MAC athletics. He covered all varsity sports across the MAC, delivering comprehensive coverage while hosting and producing.

While serving as a graduate student at Ohio, he earned the Class of 2026 Impact Award.

Additionally, the Lima, Ohio native also brings international experience from the quadball (quidditch) world. He held a key leadership position with US Quidditch, serving as the World Cup Marketing Director at the 2016 Quidditch World Cup in Frankfurt, Germany, where he oversaw a team of 10 to execute marketing, media, and promotional operations for the event featuring national squads from around the world.

"I am incredibly excited to join the Randolph College community and begin this next chapter of my career," Scheer said. "I want to thank Director of Athletics Tom Galbraith and the search committee for the confidence they've placed in me. From my very first conversations, it was clear how much the school values student-athletes, coaches, and the campus community. I look forward to telling the stories that make Randolph Athletics special, celebrating the achievements of our student-athletes and helping to showcase the dedication and passion that define the WildCats."

Scheer will oversee communications for Randolph's 23 athletic programs, including supervising the department's website and social media accounts, along with crucial roles in game day management, statistics, and media relations.

"One of the things that excites me most about this opportunity is the chance to enhance the gameday experience," Scheer said. "Whether it's creating a memorable atmosphere, sharing the accomplishments of our programs, or connecting fans and alumni to the sports they know and love through our storytelling, I know that athletic communications plays an important role in how people experience college athletics. I'm incredibly eager to collaborate with our coaches, staff, and student-athletes to ensure that every program has the opportunity to be recognized and that every WildCat has a story worth telling."
