Women's Tennis Sees Win-Streak End at R-MC
ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team fell to Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, 7-2. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) loss saw the WildCats six-match win streak end.
Doubles began the day, and Keyu Jin and Aubrey Hawn continued their strong first campaigns. The two battled the Yellow Jackets, and ended up taking an 8-5 decision. Ashley Schmitz and Jenna Sweet teamed at number two. After exchanging games early on, R-MC won the match. Kristen Hamilton and Samantha Dickerson played well at number three, but could not pull off the win after taking two games.
Jin was in for another tough match at number one singles. She dropped the first set, but came out strong in the second. She won after giving up only three games. With plenty of daylight, a super-tiebreak was not used. Jin battled in the third, winning four games. However, she fell.
Schmitz played very well at number four. She stormed out to a 6-1 first set win. Her opponent showed more resistance in the second, but Schmitz used her forehand well to earn the win. Hawn and Sweet played at number two and three respectively, and both played tough. Hawn took six games off of her opponent, but neither was able to win. Lauren Appel was able to win four games of the second set in fifth singles, but she fell in two. Dickerson suffered the same fate at number six.
Randolph (9-3, 6-2) will finish off its three-match road swing on Wednesday. The WildCats will travel across town to take on Lynchburg College (6-7, 3-3) at 3 p.m.
