Bradley Tallies Twice against Quakers
LYNCHBURG, VA – Hannah Bradley had two goals for the Randolph College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday night, but Guilford College won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest, 21-5.
The WildCats started the game off very well, as Chelsea Marciniak picked up the opening draw control. The team lost possession, but Nicole Dorton picked off a pass on the ensuing clear attempt. It was at this time that Marciniak was fouled and given space to run, just outside the eight-meter. She ran around the defenders to the right, and ripped it home for the 1-0 lead. However, the Quakers were able to respond with a 4-0 run over the next five minutes.
GC went on offense on the next draw, but Maddie Peters was able to force two big turnovers. It was after the second that Libby Exline was fouled near midline. She passed the ball to Bradley, who outran several defenders and fired the ball into the top right of the netting, halving the margin. Unfortunately, despite the defending and goalkeeping, Guilford was able to take a 15-2 lead into the half. Dana Cavallo caused two turnovers during that time, while Chrissy Shackleford made two saves.
Guilford kept its run going to start the second, scoring the initial two of the half. However, after Shackleford made two more big saves, the WildCats found themselves with possession near midfield. The team lost the ball, but Taylor Gamble took a charge and was given the ball with 40 yards and only the goalie to beat. She sprinted down the field and did just that, firing one home.
Randolph added another goal, with it coming off of another big save by Shackleford. This time, Bradley was fouled and awarded a free position shot. She loaded up and sent the ball low and past the goalie, for her second of the game.
However, the Quakers were able to go on another run. But the 'Cats did not quit. After the visitors were shown a yellow card (two-minute penalty), Gamble hit Dorton on the left side of the crease. She made no doubt about it, but there would not be enough time left, as the game would end in favor of GC.
Cavallo led the way with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Stanley pulled in four draw controls and also scooped up three ground balls. Dorton, Peters, and Shackleford all finished with a two apiece. Amanda Dionne had four goals for Guilford (5-6 overall, 2-1 ODAC).
Randolph (2-8, 0-3) will return to the road for its next two games. The first will come on Saturday, as the team travels to Randolph-Macon College (6-4, 3-0) for a 4 p.m. game.
