WildCats Set Record for ODAC Wins in a Season, Taking Down SU

LYNCHBURG, VA – With weather affecting weekend schedules, the Randolph College women's tennis team hosted Shenandoah University on Saturday.  The match was originally scheduled for SU's campus, but was moved to the Crosswhite Athletic Club.  The WildCats won 8-0.

With the win, the 'Cats set new program records in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) wins in a single season and ties the single-season record for wins.

Doubles started off the indoor action, and the WildCats started the convincing win well.  Keyu Jin and Aubrey Hawn teamed at number one and gave up only three games before getting the win.  Jenna Sweet and Ashley Schmitz continued their great run at number two.  For the third-straight match, the two swept their opponents, winning 8-0.  Samantha Dickerson and Kristen Hamilton teamed at number three.  This spot had the best the match of the day.  Action went back and forth throughout, and more games were needed.  The score became tied at 8-8, forcing a tiebreak.  The WildCats held tough, and won 7-4.

Singles were up next, and the only match that did not end in a win was five.  Lauren Appel's match went unfinished.  The WildCats cruised in the other five matches.  Only two spots – one with Jin and six with Dickerson – gave up more than a game.  Both Jin and Dickerson swept a set, while dropping two games in the other.  Hawn, Sweet, and Schmitz were even better at two, three, and four, respectively.  All three swept one of the sets, while giving up only a game in the other.

Randolph (12-3 overall, 9-2 ODAC) will host its next match in the first round of the ODAC Tournament.  The match will take place on May 3.  The opponent, seedings, and time will be released at a later date.
