Stanley's Career-Day Leads Offensive Outpour in WildCats Win
SWEET BRIAR, VA – Teagan Stanley posted career-highs in goals, assists, and points, as the Randolph College women's lacrosse team defeated Sweet Briar College 20-5 on Wednesday.
The Vixens were the first to get on the board as Elizabeth Phaup scored shortly after picking up the opening draw. However, the 'Cats began their run shortly after.
Leah Hughes was fouled on her attempted attack. She lined up and ripped the free position attempt home. Following a Taylor Gamble caused turnover, Stanley found Hughes in a great spot. Hughes took the lead, after sending the shot into the back of the netting. Nicole Dorton made it 3-1 after catching a pass from Stanley on a break. She beat the goalie to add to the advantage.
Hannah Bradley made it 4-1 with 20 minutes left in the half, as she worked her way through the defense. Stanley then joined the scoring, as she finished off a pass from Gamble. She pushed the lead to five, after Hughes hit her on a cut through the middle.
Phaup brought one more back for the Vixens, but it started another run for the WildCats. Hughes completed her hat trick to start the run, once again with Stanley getting the assist. Stanley followed her with her third, as Libby Exline assisted on it. Kathy Butler joined in on the scoring, as she tallied off a pass from Bradley. Bradley and Chelsea Marciniak made it 11-2 with just under nine minutes left in the half.
Sweet Briar scored two of the next three goals, as Dorton had the other, but once again, Randolph went on another run. Hughes tallied her fourth, going top left on her free position attempt. Marciniak then had two quick ones. Stanley hit her right on the outside of the crease after forcing a turnover, and then Stanley found her on the right side of the crease after winning the ensuing faceoff, giving the WildCats a 15-4 lead at the half.
The run continued at the start of the half, as Hughes opened things up with just under three minutes in. Tyrah Cobb-Davis was next in line, as she found the back of the net for the first time on the day. Then, at the 18:52 mark, Cobb-Davis hit Bradley with a pass near the crease, and Bradley scored another. Marciniak then made it 19-4 with 16 minutes left in the game.
Randolph settled the ball down over the remainder of the half, but the Vixens tallied one late goal. However, Marciniak fired one home on a free position shot, right before the final horn sounded, giving the 'Cats the 20-5 win.
Stanley had eight points with the three goals and five assists. It tied the fifth-highest single game total in program history. Stanley also forced three turnovers in the game. Hughes and Marciniak both finished with five goals, while Bradley had three. Marciniak and Shannon MacQuaid both pulled in three draws, and Dorton posted a team-high four.
Randolph (3-9, 0-4 ODAC) will return home for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game on Friday. The WildCats host Virginia Wesleyan College (1-11, 0-5) at 6 p.m. Prior to the game, Randolph will honor the seniors, Marciniak, Gamble, and Hughes.
