Randolph Extends Winning Streak against E&H

EMORY, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team took down Emory & Henry College 5-1 on Sunday, which was the fourth-straight win for the WildCats.  The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest was played to decision because of rain in the area.

After coming from behind in doubles action on Friday, the WildCats knew they needed a good start to win the decision match (ends when one team wins five matches).  The WildCats got just that, taking two of the three in doubles.  Keyu Jin and Aubrey Hawn played a tough match at number one.  The two battled, eventually earning the win 8-5.  Ashley Schmitz and Jenna Sweet did not face the same trouble at number two.  The pair covered a lot of ground and eased to an 8-1 victory.  Samantha Dickerson and Kristen Hamilton teamed at number three for the second-straight match.  Once again, the pair looked strong.  However, after winning six games, the WildCats fell.

Needing only three wins to earn the victory, the 'Cats made short work of the Wasps in singles.  Jin came out strong in the number one spot.  She gave up only three games on the way to a two-set victory.  Hawn stormed out in the first set at number two.  She swept her opponent 6-0, before facing tougher opposition in the second.  However, she persevered and won 6-4.  Sweet earned the final win, in somewhat reverse fashion.  She went back and forth with the Wasp in the first, winning 6-3.  However, in the second, she allowed only a game to go the other way, earning a two-set victory and sealing the team win.

Schmitz was winning 5-2 in her match, while Lauren Appel had only played one game in hers.  Dickerson had yet to start before the match was finished.

Randolph (7-2 overall, 4-1 ODAC) will look to continue its winning streak next Saturday.  The WildCats host ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan College (1-6, 0-1) at 1 p.m.
