WildCats Fall to Nationally Ranked W&L
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team hosted the number 16 team in the country on Tuesday, taking on Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Washington and Lee University. The WildCats played tough, but fell to the Generals 9-0.
Doubles started things off and the 'Cats played strong at every spot. Keyu Jin and Aubrey Hawn teamed up at number one for the second-straight match. The first years looked good, but fell to a very good team. Jenna Sweet and Lauren Appel teamed again, and played a solid match, but could not pull off a game. At number three, Samantha Dickerson and Ashley Schmitz looked tough and took a game against the Generals before succumbing.
Singles followed, and the WildCats continued to hold their own against one of the best teams in the country. Jin took on the eighth-ranked player in the country, Brooke Donnelly, and played very well. Jin ended up falling in two sets, but she took a game in the second. Hawn played tough at number two but could not get a game.
Sweet, Schmitz, Appel, and Dickerson were the Randolph representatives at spots three through six. All of them played very well, competing against the top-25 program. Each dropped the match, but all of them took a game against their opponent.
Randolph (1-1 overall, 0-1 ODAC) will remain at home the rest of the week. The WildCats host Shepherd University (3-9) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
