Box Score Each week, the Randolph College athletics department showcases a question and answer with our WildCat of the Week. This week is a senior goalkeeper from the women's soccer team Quinn-Lynn Bates.
Bates had one of the best performances of the year last week. Randolph tied Roanoke 0-0 and Bates had a season-best 17 saves in that contest. It was the most saves for her in a game in three seasons. She recorded her first shutout of the year and the seventh for her career. It is the first time in 30 years that the WildCats and Maroons have played to a scoreless tie.
Bates leads the team with 68 saves. She ranks fourth in the ODAC in that category.
You had a fantastic performance against Roanoke. Did you feel you were in a zone all night? What was your mindset?
Against Roanoke I did feel like I was in the zone all night. My mindset was that we were not going to get scored on and to really help my defense with shifting and picking up runners coming through. I also knew that I was going to have to be aggressive in the box and come of my line quick against Roanoke.
How do you mentally prepare for a game?
To mentally repair for a game, I really try to concentrate on every possible situation that could occur during the game and how to deal with them during our pre-game.
You list snowboarding as one of your favorite activities. Where have you gone to do that?
I just like to snowboard for fun so I only go to different slopes in Virginia. It's a fun thing to do in the winter when we aren't in season.
What are your plans after graduation?
After I graduate, I hope to go to graduate school to get my Masters in Accounting. I would like to also stay around soccer and possibly coach at some point.
