WildCats Dominate but Draw with Pacers in 2OT

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's soccer team controlled the entire 110 minutes of play against William Peace University on Tuesday night, but the non-conference game ended in a 0-0 draw at WildCat Stadium.

Randolph came out firing right from the early stages of the game, as Alissa Gembach and Devon Nowicki fired shots within the first three minutes.  Maggie Croft would attempt her first of the game 10 minutes later, but it went left of the goal.

Shortly after, the Pacers earned their best opportunity of the game.  Amelia Melching sent her corner kick into the box, and Caylin Yarbrough got her foot on it, but it was blocked.  The ball rebounded to Katie Hodges and she sent her attempt well over the crossbar.  But that would be the last good chance for WPU.

The 'Cats kept pressing but failed to find the back of the net, as Patricia Garrett had two of her shots saved.  The score would remain knotted at zero entering the break.

Randolph was even more aggressive in the beginning of the second stanza.  Over the first 15 minutes, Erin McClelland and Croft both forced Shannon Maddex into saves, while Delaney Doyle put a header over the framework.

The barrage continued over the final 30 minutes of period.  Randolph amassed six shots, with Megan Kruse turning a dangerous run in to a good save.  While the bombardment occurred, the 'Cats did a great job of holding WPU down.  William Peace did not register a shot, because of the stalwart play of Natalia Tomlin, Missy Hussey, McClelland, and Madeline Davis in the back, along with holding mid Hannah Overstreet.

Overtime would once again see the WildCats attacking and earning great attempts.  Overstreet sent her ball over the crossbar, while Gembach put two near the vicinity in the first extra period.  Sam Hablas took two shots, but both were stopped at the beginning of the second.  Then, in the 107th-minute, the 'Cats looked like they had won it, but were whistled for offside, and the game would end in a tie.

Randolph outshot the Pacers 22-3 (10-0 on goal), while earning 11 more corner kicks (13-2).  Maddex earned the tie for William Peace (0-2-1 overall) after stopping the 10 shots.  Quinn-Lynn Bates got her first shutout of the year.

The WildCats (0-1-1) will head on the road for their next two games.  The first comes on Saturday, as the 'Cats will take on Marymount University (1-1) at 2 p.m.
