ARLINGTON, VA – The Randolph College women's soccer team took on Marymount University on Saturday, and fell 2-1 in very tough circumstances.  The game was affected by the oppressive heat that was in the area, taking its toll on everyone involved in the game.

The Saints were the first to team to get into the attacking zone, registering a shot less than a minute in.  MU continued the pressure, forcing Stephanie Quirk into two saves along with another one going wide.

However, the mandatory water break went into effect shortly after, which helped change the momentum.  Maggie Croft sent her attempt just off the goal, but it was soon followed by Sam Hablas getting her attempt on the frame.  The goalie stopped her shot, but would not be able to do the same on the next attempt.

Just over the 30-minute mark, Marymount committed a foul and Erin McClelland stepped up to take the free kick.  She sent the kick towards Hablas, who got behind the defense and she found Patricia Garrett.  Garrett found the back of the net for the WildCats first of the season.

Both teams had good opportunities late in the half, with the Saints ringing the woodwork, but Randolph kept the 1-0 lead at the break.

The second stanza started similarly as the Saints pressured.  Marymount were called for two offsides before registering a shot, but it was stopped by Quirk.  The hosts put another one on net soon after, but Quirk was there once again.  The 'Cats had the next opportunity, but Sarah Sivick's shot was knocked out of bounds.

Then in the 69th minute, Lyndsie Iwata lofted a shot into the back of the net for MU, tying the game at 1-1.  The hosts kept up the attack, searching for a winner.  Quirk stepped up several times again to stop the attack.  However, in the 86th minute, Courtney Stephens sent a shot over the defensive wall and into the back of the net for the victory.

Gretal Bonilla had the lone assist on the afternoon for the Saints (3-1 overall).  Quirk made six saves over the 90 minutes for the WildCats.

Randolph (0-2-1) will continue its road trip this Wednesday.  The 'Cats travel to North Carolina Wesleyan College for an afternoon game, with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
