Anderson's Early Tally the Difference Maker in the WildCats Win

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Brian Anderson scored the only goal in the fifth-minute of the game, propelling the Randolph College men's soccer team to 1-0 win over North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday.

Anderson got the ball off a deflection shortly after the start of the game.  The ball landed at his foot in a perfect position and he sent it in the back of the net.  It was even more impressive as it was the first five minutes that Anderson has played this year.

The rest of the first half saw the WildCats work well in keeping the Battling Bishops out of the net.  Erick Cortez-Martinez stopped four shots in the stanza to keep the narrow advantage.

The second half proved to be very testy between the two teams.  Eight different cards were given out, with both teams ending the game with only 10 players.  However, despite the pressure by the hosts, the WildCats continued to stop NCWC.  Randolph took the win 1-0.

Cortez-Martinez made five total saves for his first career shutout and his second win in two games.  For the game, the WildCats earned more corner kicks for the second-straight game.  NCWC (1-3 overall) totaled more shots in the game, but could not capitalize.

Randolph (2-1) continues play in the NCWC Fall Classic on Sunday.  The WildCats take on Methodist University in the final game of the tournament, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
