'Cats Drop Match to Quakers

GREENSBORO, NC – The Randolph College men's tennis team had a quick turnaround after the historic win on Friday night, traveling to Guilford College on Saturday.  The WildCats fell in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match 8-1.

For the third time in four matches, Doug Corbett and Bradley Strober teamed up at the number one spot, after playing most of the year at the second spot.  The two played a tough match, but fell after taking four games.  JT von Seggern and Q Manglapus paired at second doubles for the second-straight day, but the two dropped their match in the same score as first doubles.  In the third spot, Dario Schiano-Moriello and Trevor Johnson were the pair for the second-straight day.  The two played well but went against a tough team, falling 8-1.

Singles action saw the WildCats man different positions for the most part.  Strober was the only one at his usual spot, as he competed at number one.  He dropped the first set, but came back strong in the second, winning easily at 6-1.  It forced a super tie-break to 10.  Strober doubled his opponent, earning his fifth win in his last six matches.

Johnson moved up to two, and played very well.  He pushed his opponent in both sets, but fell after taking seven games.  Manglapus moved up to number three and had a similar match.  He dropped three after winning five games.  Corbett took over the four spot and nearly won the first set, taking four games.  But he dropped the second as well, sealing the match.  Schiano-Moriello and Joe Kaneda fell in their matches at five and six, respectively.

Randolph (8-5 overall, 3-4 ODAC) returns home for both matches next weekend.  The WildCats host Southern Virginia University (8-8) on Friday in their makeup from late February.  The match begins at 3 p.m.
