Women's Tennis Falls to Yellow Jackets
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team hosted Randolph-Macon College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Friday. The visitors, who are ranked 14th in the Atlantic South Region, left with the 8-1 victory.
Dina Velazco and Jenna Sweet teamed at number one doubles, as they have done all year, and played a great match. The two played a tough team from R-MC, but the WildCats came away with a convincing 8-3 victory. Samantha Dickerson and Emmalyn Snead were the pair at number two, and played well, but fell after taking a game. Alex Wieczorek and Shelby Lutz were the final pair, but the Yellow Jackets won the match at number three doubles.
Velazco played a very tight match at number one singles. She just missed out on the first set, falling 6-4, before dropping the second. Sweet fell at number two, but took two games from the Yellow Jacket in the match. Snead, Dickerson, Wieczorek, and Lutz competed in spots three through six. All four played well against tough opponents, but dropped the matches.
Randolph (8-5 overall, 1-5 ODAC) returns to action on Saturday. The 'Cats travel to Greensboro, NC to play Guilford College (4-6, 3-5) in another ODAC contest. The match begins at 1 p.m.
