WildCats Fall in Shortened Match to Eagles
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's tennis match with Bridgewater College faced many changes before being played on Friday. The Eagles defeated the 'Cats 5-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match.
BC was originally supposed to host this match in March, however it was rescheduled to Friday. Then when rain came, it was forced inside to the Crosswhite Athletic Club in Lynchburg. With it being inside some matches were not finished.
Doubles started things, and Bradley Strober and Doug Corbett continued their success at number one. The two battled their opponents and even needed extra action, finally taking first doubles 9-7. JT von Seggern and Q Manglapus teamed at number two and the pair played well but could only take four games. Dario Schiano-Moriello and Trevor Johnson played together at three, and fell by the same score.
Singles followed and featured intense battles at number one, two, and four. Strober won his first set at number one, before falling in the tiebreak in the second set. Strober and his counterpart then squared off in a super-tiebreak to decide the match. BC ended up taking super-tiebreak and number one. It was a similar story at number two as von Seggern won his first set. He too dropped a close second set, falling by only two games, which set up a super-tiebreak. However, the Eagles won that spot as well.
Manglapus won his first set as well at four. He dropped the second, but rebounded with great poise in the super-tiebreak. Manglapus more than doubled up his opponent on the way to a win.
However, Johnson fell at number three, sealing the win for BC. Corbett did not finish his match at number five, while Schiano-Moriello did not get his match started.
Randolph (9-6 overall, 4-5 ODAC) will be back in action on Saturday, hosting Lynchburg College on Senior Day. The WildCats will honor Schiano-Moriello and Evan Scarborough at 12:45, before the match begins.
