Men's Tennis Falls to VWC

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Randolph College men's tennis team played the 20th-ranked team in the Atlantic South Region in Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday, and fell to the Marlins 5-0.  The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match was moved indoors to Centre Court in Newport News to avoid rain, and with the fewer courts, the match was played to decision.

The doubles teams were up first, and JT von Seggern and Dario Schiano-Moriello moved back into the top spot after not playing together in the previous match.  The two played well at the top spot, but fell after taking four games.  Trevor Johnson and Q Manglapus were back as the grouping at number three.  The duo dropped the match after winning four games as well.  Bradley Strober and Doug Corbett were back in the two spot this week, but they fell as well.

Singles saw only two matches take place.  Strober played the 20th-ranked player in the region in Graham Wilson.  After taking a couple of games from Wilson, Strober eventually fell.  Schiano-Moriello had the other match in singles, playing at number six.  Schiano-Moriello pushed his opponent to the brink in the first set, falling 7-5.  However, Spenser Bullock won the sixth spot after taking the second set.

Randolph (7-4 overall, 2-3 ODAC) will return home this Friday for its next ODAC match.  The WildCats host Randolph-Macon College with the match beginning at 3 p.m.
