Sweet Continues to Add to Her Record, but Hornets Defeat WildCats
LYNCHBURG, VA – Jenna Sweet continued to add to her record for wins in a career on Saturday, but the Randolph College women's tennis team fell to Shenandoah University on Saturday. The Hornets won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match 6-3.
Sweet and doubles partner Dina Velazco set the tone early on for the WildCats. The two took down their opponents at number one with ease, 8-1. However, SU would get wins at the other two spots. Emmalyn Snead and Samantha Dickerson could not repeat the score they had during Friday's match, falling after taking two games. Alex Wieczorek and Shelby Lutz dropped their match at number three by the same score.
Singles came next and Sweet came out and dominated the first set, winning 6-0. Her opponent retired following that first loss, giving Sweet the win. Dickerson earned the other win for Randolph. She gave up only four games over the two set victory, showing that the move to number four has been a very good one.
However, the WildCats would not get another win. Velazco fell at number one, while Snead took four games before dropping the match at number three. Wieczorek dropped her singles match in the fifth spot. Lutz fell in the first set of six singles, but came out and played a great second. She won four games, but ultimately lost in two sets.
Randolph (9-7 overall, 1-7 ODAC) will return to action next Friday. The WildCats will travel to Bridgewater College (3-10, 2-5) in an important match that will help decide the last seed. The match begins at 3 p.m.
