Men's Tennis Sweeps E&H in Cancer Awareness Match

LYNCHBURG, VA – On Saturday, the Randolph College men's tennis team wore tie-dye shirts to raise awareness for Liver Cancer, while also sweeping its opponents.  The WildCats defeated Emory & Henry College 9-0 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match.

The 'Cats came out and dominated in the opening doubles matches.  With one player missing the match, Bradley Strober and Doug Corbett moved up to the top spot after playing all of their matches at number two.  The pair played a tough tandem, but pulled out a narrow 8-6 victory.

The other two matches were not as close.  Dario Schiano-Moriello played his first doubles match at number two, with new partner Q Manglapus.  There was no tough adjustment, as Randolph won second doubles 8-2.  Trevor Johnson paired with Tuan Tran for the first time this year at three.  It made no difference, as the duo won easily, with another 8-2 score line.

The singles results saw a variety in the ways the WildCats won.  Corbett won number four because of an injury forfeit.  Joe Kaneda saw action at number six, and came away without giving up a game.  Schiano-Moriello played as the number five, and repeated his success from Friday night.  He won with the exact same score of 6-1, 6-3.  Strober also made short work of his opponent, giving up only four games over the two sets.

Johnson and Manglapus faced tougher battles at two and three, respectively.  Each player dropped their first set, but came back strong in the second.  Johnson won 6-4 in the second, before more than doubling up his opponent in the tiebreak (10-4).  Manglapus gave up only three games in the second, before sealing the sweep, winning 10-5 in the tiebreak.

The WildCats tie-dye shirts were part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's (SAAC) Cancer Awareness games.  Randolph raised awareness for Liver Cancer.  If you would like to make a donation, please go to http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=71354&pg=team&team_id=1932376.

Randolph (7-3 overall, 2-2 ODAC) will head on the road for its next match.  The WildCats take on Hollins University, this Friday at 3 p.m.
