Balanced Attack Leads WildCats to Most Wins in Program History

WINCHESTER, VA – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team had eight different players score, helping the WildCats defeat Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Shenandoah University 10-7 on Saturday.  The victory, which is the sixth of the season, sets a new record for most wins in a season by a Randolph men's lacrosse team.

The first quarter went back and forth right from the get go.  Cam Davis made two stops in the first three minutes, while his counterpart Ben Judy made one as well.  After Davis' second, the WildCats had a successful clear, and Andrew Risse found Andrew Gleitz for the 1-0 lead.  However, Tilghman Sanders answered on the following possession to tie the score.

Davis made another stop on the next possession, and it led to another successful clear.  At the 9:20 mark, Gleitz scored his second of the day.  This time, Mitch MacDonald found him near the crease for the goal.  Once again, the Hornets answered within a minute to tie the score.  But the 'Cats came back again.  SU fired many shots near the goal, but Davis only had to make one stop.  Then, Brett Pausic tallied an assist, as he got the ball to Ryan Campbell for his first of the game.  Davis made two more stops on a penalty-kill to keep the lead at 3-2 entering the second.

Randolph used that solid end to the first as momentum in the second.  Shane Soghomonian fired one in the back of the net at the 13:33 mark.  Ian DiSesa won the next faceoff, with Kadri Hearns picking up the loose ball.  Pausic followed the win with a rip into the back of the net, as Risse picked up his second assist.

Shenandoah fought back, but Davis made three straight stops, and Spencer Matthews forced a turnover.  But the SU attack eventually found the back of the net, putting the score at 5-3.  The 'Cats got the ball back, and fired on the goal often, retaining possession every time.  MacDonald then worked his way left, and added to the lead.  Risse made it 7-3 with six seconds left in the half, as Soghomonian found the senior near the goal.

The Hornets took one back early on in the second half, but Graham Southwick and Campbell brought Randolph back right away.  Southwick sent his shot into the back of the cage, before he found Campbell for his second of the game.  The 'Cats continued to put pressure on SU, but Shenandoah once again cut the deficit.  After a WildCat penalty, the Hornets took advantage of the man-up and brought the score to 9-5 before the end of the third.

The fourth saw neither team able to find the back of the net early on, but the 'Cats were the first to break through with 3:40 remaining.  Corey Nehlig ripped one from distance to finalize the WildCats scoring.  Shenandoah brought two back in the final three minutes, but Randolph held on for the 10-7 historic victory.

Davis led the WildCats with nine stops, while Matt Lindenbaum added two stops in the second half.  Matthews picked up three ground balls and Risse had a team-high three points.  Stephen LaTona led the Hornets (4-3 overall, 0-1 ODAC) with four goals.

Randolph (6-0, 1-0) returns home next week for only one game.  The 'Cats will host Southern Virginia University (2-4) on Tuesday with the first faceoff set for 7 p.m.  The WildCats will look to build on this record win and expand their record amount of wins.
