'Cats keep it rolling with Big Win over Averett
DANVILLE, VA – After earning a big 9-0 win on Saturday, the Randolph College women's tennis team kept its strong start going, winning 7-2 at Averett University on Sunday.
Things got off well in doubles, as has been the story all year. While the matches were closer than the previous day, all three provided wins for the 'Cats. The top team of Dina Velazco and Jenna Sweet took down their opponents 8-3. Alex Wieczorek and Samantha Dickerson followed suit with the same score at number three. Sarah Parker and Emmalyn Snead worked well together at number two, and won 8-4.
Singles saw a variety of matches. Sweet had the most dominating performance. She won at number three without giving up a set. Parker also put up a strong performance at number two, winning 6-1, 6-2. Fifth and six singles saw the other two wins for the WildCats. Dickerson gave up only four games in her convincing victory at number five, while Wieczorek won 6-3, 6-3 at number six.
Velazco played tough, winning four games, but ultimately fell at number one. Snead pushed Olivia Scott in the first set, falling 7-6 (5). Scott earned the win with a second set victory.
