Men's Tennis Falls at Averett
DANVILLE, VA – The Randolph College men's tennis team played a tough Averett University on Sunday, falling 9-0 to the Cougars, but the results were much closer.
In the first doubles, JT von Seggern and Dario Schiano-Moriello played a very tough match. The team unfortunately fell 8-6. Doug Corbett and Q Manglapus teamed at number two but couldn't pull it out. Trevor Johnson and Bradley Strober teamed at number three, and won two games, but it was not enough.
The singles side of play once again saw the 'Cats compete very well, but unfortunately could not earn a win. Strober fell at number to Oliver Lindqvist, but took two games. Corbett finished with the same score-line at number five. Schiano-Moriello and von Seggern had two of the most hotly contested matches at six and two respectively. Schiano-Moriello took seven games, while von Seggern won five. Manglapus had a hard fought match at number four, winning four games. Johnson rounded out the action, falling to James Wright at number three.
Randolph (5-1 overall) will come back to home this week, which will include a very difficult match on Wednesday. The 32nd-ranked team in the nation, Washington and Lee University, will be the opponent on at 3 p.m.
