Randolph Women's Tennis gives up only Two Games in Win over Ferrum

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's tennis team opened up its 2016 spring in highly impressive fashion, winning 9-0 over Ferrum College.  The WildCats won 96 total games, compared to only two for the visitors.

The 'Cats started the afternoon off with a clean sweep in doubles.  The number-one pair of Dina Velazco and Jenna Sweet defeated their counterparts 8-0.  Sarah Parker, worked in her new partner – Emmalyn Snead – and followed suit with the same score in the second spot.  Alex Wieczorek and Samantha Dickerson combined for the 8-0 win at number three.

The singles were very similar, as only two games were lost.  Velazco won at number one 6-0, 6-1.  Sweet swept her opponent in the second spot, and Parker did the same at number three.  Snead beat her opponent in the fourth spot 6-0, 6-1.  Two first years, Dickerson and Shelby Lutz, were in the final two WildCat spots.  The two eased to 6-0, 6-0 victories at number five and number six respectively.

Randolph (3-0 overall) will head on the road tomorrow.  The WildCats travel to Washington and Lee University, currently ranked 10th in the nation.  The match will begin at 4 p.m., with W&L having indoor courts.
