Randolph Women's Soccer Opens up D.C. Classic at Catholic; Quirk Sets New Personal-Best
WASHINGTON, DC – With heavy downpours affecting games throughout the region, the Randolph College women's soccer team played its first game of the D.C. Classic at the Catholic University of America on Saturday five hours after the two teams were supposed to play. The Cardinals defeated the WildCats 7-0 in the first game of the tournament.
Stephanie Quirk, starting in her second game of the season, had a remarkable game in net for the 'Cats. Quirk stopped three shots in the first six minutes of the game and she would not let down. After CUA got on the board with two tallies, Quirk went back on the defensive with five more stops.
She made five more saves before halftime, but Catholic would go into the intermission with a 4-0 lead. In the second stanza, Quirk continued the heroics, stopping six more attempts by the Cardinals. It was a career high of 19 saves for the sophomore.
Meghan Curtin notched a few chances to get back at the Cardinals, but the CUA goalie was up to the challenge to preserve the shutout.
Kirsten Wosleger and Kelly Henderson each notched a goal and an assist for the Cardinals (4-1 overall).
Randolph (1-2-1) plays in the first game of the second day of the Classic on Sunday. The game against Goucher College is supposed to begin at noon, but due to the rain, the game time will be determined on gameday.
