NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Randolph's best-ever season came to an end Saturday at the hands of Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC tournament.
The No. 7 seed WildCats fell to the No. 2 seed Marlins, 5-0, in a match played to decision indoors at the Center Court Racquet Club of Newport News after weather forced the match to be delayed.
The loss ends Randolph's record-setting season, which featured eight wins, which is the most in program history, and an 8-7 regular season record, which marks the first-ever winning season for the team.
The five wins in ODAC play is also a team record.
Individually, first-year Bradley Strober and sophomore Doug Corbett broke the program record for singles wins with 10 apiece.
Sophomore Trevor Johnson tied that record with nine. Sophomore JT von Seggern and first-year Dario Schiano-Moriello were just one shy of the previous mark.
The WildCats will graduate the three winningest players in program history in Dan Phung, Zach Dales and Daniil Lyalko.
In the match Saturday, Lyalko and Schiano-Moriello made a run at top doubles, but fell, 8-4, while Johnson and von Seggern fell by the same score at No. 3.
Strober and Corbett dropped No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Corbett and Schiano-Moriello fell in straight sets and No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, to give Virginia Wesleyan the crucial fifth point to earn the win while the other four singles matches were still in action.
