Women's Tennis Falters to End Record-Setting Spurt

ASHLAND, Va. -- Winners of seven of eight for the first time, Randolph dropped a match today to Randolph-Macon.

The Yellow Jackets earned a 7-2 victory today, also ending the perfect season of sophomore Jenna Sweet, who was 10-0 in singles play.

Sweet and junior Dina Velazco started the day off with an 8-0 loss at No. 1 doubles.

Junior Sarah Parker and sophomore Heather Parra earned Randolph's lone doubles win at No. 2, 8-5.

At No. 3 doubles, seniors Danielle Lewis and Tiandre Forde fell, 8-1.

In singles play, only Parra at No. 4 was victorious, 7-5, 7-6 (10-8) in a tight matchup.

Velazco and Parker fell at No. 1 and No. 2 in straight sets.

Sweet battled to keep her streak alive, winning the first set 6-2 before dropping the second, 6-2.

She fell in the super-tiebreaker, 10-4, ending her fantastic run to open the season, which included three wins at No. 3.

Lewis fell at No. 5 in straight sets, while Forde dropped a super-tiebreaker, 10-3, after rallying with a set two win.

Randolph continues its three matches in three days span at Hollins on Monday.
