Women's Tennis Falls to Webster in Spring Opener in South Carolina

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Women's tennis finally got its spring season underway, but fell to Webster, 6-3.

Randolph lost two heart-breakers in the top two doubles matches, 9-8 and 9-7, respectively.

Junior Dina Velazco and sophomore Jenna Sweet fell at the top doubles spot and the team of sophomore Heather Parra and junior Sarah Parker lost at No. 2.

Randolph was victorious, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles as seniors Danielle Lewis and Tiandre Forde teamed up for the victory.

Webster won in straight sets in the top three singles spots, with Parker, Velazco and Parra unsuccessful.

Sweet won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 to earn a point for the WildCats.

Forde dropped the first set, 6-4, at No. 5, but rallied to force a third set with a tiebreak victory in the second. She fell in the super-tiebreaker, however, 10-4, to drop the match.

Lewis won, 6-3, 6-0, to take the No. 6 singles match.

Randolph will continue at Spring Tennis Fest with Swarthmore Monday and Ohio Wesleyan Tuesday.
