Despite the amazing finish and close scoreline, Randolph never trailed in tonight's contest.
The WildCats scored the game's first four goals early, starting with one from junior Andrew Risse.
Risse, who already holds the program's record for points and assists in a game, came up one short of each record again with three goals and four assists for seven points.
After Risse's first, he set up classmate Corey Nehlig to double the lead.
Sophomore Shane Soghomonian and Risse followed with unassisted markers to make the lead four.
Greensboro scored four of the next five, with just one from junior Brian Crosby in the mix from Randolph.
Junior Andrew Gleitz ended that momentum with a goal with 13 seconds left in the first and the first goal of the second period.
Risse took a feed from Matthews and sophomore Ryan Campbell finished a feed from Gleitz to end the scoring in the period after two Greensboro goals.
Entering the second half with a 9-6 lead, Risse found Campbell to open the scoring.
Crosby responded to a Pride goal with an extra man tally, but Greensboro responded just 44 seconds later.
The teams continued going back and forth, as Risse found Gleitz twice in 1:28 to make the lead 13-8.
That cushion was short-lived, however, as Greensboro scored just eight seconds later.
The start of the fourth featured no goals over the first 10:49, but a flurry finished the game with excitement.
Greensboro struck twice in 21 seconds to make the deficit just 13-11.
Nehlig responded 38 seconds later, but Greensboro got one back through Gianni Gonzalez with 2:58 to go.
Charles Stringfellow scored his fifth goal for the Pride with 1:48 to go, setting up a grandstand finish.
Randolph won the ensuing faceoff but couldn't keep the ball, allowing Greensboro a final shot.
Out of a pair of timeouts with 24.5 seconds to go, junior defender Baden James forced a long shot to Davis's left, which the junior turned aside easily for his 13th save.
With the ball on the ground, Matthews, a former Randolph men's basketball player, used his skills from the court to box out his attacker, sealing the win for Randolph.
"I have to give it all to the defense, the middies and the offense, who put up 14 goals for us," Davis said. "On the last save Baden did a great job. The defense played really well the entire game."
